I’ll start today by saying “thank you” to the awesome workers for the city who answered the call Sunday evening to deal with yet another water main break.
Somewhere between six and seven o’clock, we noticed the low water pressure and soon we knew there was a problem. Of course, my first concern was for myself – would there be drinking water, what about showering and God forbid might we have to boil water?
It wasn’t long though, that my thoughts turned to the guys who work for our city who instead of watching the Chiefs were knee-deep in mud digging out a broken water main.
Thank you isn’t nearly enough, but it’s the best I have for now. You guys are appreciated!
With that said I can admit I needed an alternative for today because my plan was to read a cute little essay from Facebook about a donkey, tiger, and a lion. You may have seen it. It dealt with the thorny question about whether the grass is blue or green.
In the end, the lion explains to the tiger in not so flattering language that the donkey is free to believe what he chose to believe, but the tiger was wasting time by even discussing the topic with the donkey and that he was arguing with a fool and thus wasting his time. The essay is designed to embarrass a certain segment of our society.
To justify sharing the essay with you today I planned to suggest it would undoubtedly make some of my listeners mad, but that it was simply an “if the shoe fits, wear it deal.”
But, as often happens Sunday morning as I reflected on my plan my words from last Wednesday about “seeking revenge” came to mind. What sharing the essay about blue and green grass would have done is insinuate there are people with views differing from mine that aren’t worth wasting my time talking to. An insulting and revenge-laden conclusion.
Sharing that essay here would have been a big mistake, so the opportunity to say thanks to Emporia’s outstanding city workers was a blessing.
Thanks again to the city crews and for my good decision!
