COVID-19 increases continued across the board in Lyon County Friday.
Lyon County Public Health reported 54 new cases bringing the overall total to 5,127 since late last March. 52 recoveries were also reported along with one new death raising the county’s death count to 90 with one case pending final cause information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Active cases increased by one from 126 to 127. Of the 127 active cases, 24 are considered to be breakthrough meaning infections in fully vaccinated residents. Collectively Public Health has identified 165 breakthrough cases.
84 individuals were vaccinated with Moderna, 46 with Johnson & Johnson and 35 with Pfizer.
USD 253 Emporia’s COVID dashboard reported two new staff positives and one new staff quarantine. The increases bring the total staff positives to 18 and quarantines to 16.
Six new positive cases were identified in students bringing the total to 96. 16 new students were placed into home quarantine due to a COVID-19 exposure increasing the total to 178 with 18 new students entering modified quarantine bringing the total to 283.
15 vaccinated students returned to school following an exposure.
