Emporia Fire are working to douse a small grass fire near the east edge of town.
Firefighters were called out to the 2100 block of US Highway 50, or between Interstate 35’s East Sixth Avenue on the east and Flint Hills Bible Church and Church of the New Covenant on the west side, shortly after 10:30 am. Early indications are a tractor snagged a guide wire to a power pole and pulled down the pole, sparking the fire. A power line was also apparently draped across the tractor.
No injuries have been reported. Less than 10 Evergy customers are currently offline.
