With just over a month to go until the general election, Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat recently joined KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment to make sure everyone is aware of some important upcoming dates.
Vopat says she and her election staff have concluded all “prep work” ahead of November’s general election and are currently wrapping up set up and testing for election machines. Vopat says the clerk’s office has a little more than 70 volunteers for this election cycle with a formal training set to take place on Oct. 29.
While that date is just for election workers, Vopat says the general public should be aware of some fast-approaching deadlines if they plan to cast a ballot come November.
*Advance voting begins Oct. 18 at the Courthouse and continues weekdays until noon Nov. 1.
*The deadline to apply for a mail ballot is Oct. 26.
The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 2 and will feature races for city commission and school board. KVOE will again host its series of on-air candidate forums beginning with the first of two city commission forums featuring incumbent Danny Giefer and hopeful candidate Jermy Hinkle Thursday on KVOE 1400 AM and 96.9 FM.
KVOE’s will have a second city commission forum on Tuesday, Oct. 5, involving Susan Brinkman, Travis Hitt and Jamie Sauder
There will also be two USD 253 school board forums on Tuesday, Oct. 12, with Mike Crouch, Lillian Lingenfelter and Paul Meinke involved, and Thursday, Oct. 14, with Christina Faulkner, Jami Reever and Jennifer Thomas on the program. All forums will begin at 10:06 am and will be available following their conclusion online in the KVOE.com audio vault.
