Coffey Health System noted a significant increase in the number of hospitals called to transfer patients for care in its latest weekly report.
Several data points — positive tests, positivity rates and test numbers — were improved from the prior week. However, the hospital in Burlington had to make 84 calls to hospitals on average to transfer patients. There were a pair of non-COVID patients that took one call for the transfer, but one COVID patient transfer took 136 calls to finalize and another took over 360 — including follow-up calls.
Average transfer times went from 11 to 14 hours week-to-week. The average transfer distance was 106 miles, up from 97 a week earlier.
Coffey Health System also announced five hospitalized COVID patients, down from seven in the previous week. As was the case in the prior week, none of the COVID patients were vaccinated.
