A Coffey County business has advanced into the round of eight in the Kansas Manufacturing Council’s Coolest Thing Made in Kansas tournament.
Hometown Pie Company, based in New Strawn, produces made-from-scratch pies. It bested a scale model from Scale Structures LTD in the first round and custom limestone rock signs from Fisher Rocks in the second round. It is currently going up against beef jerky made by Pat’s Beef Jerky.
An offering from an Emporia company was eliminated in the first round. Terratek, biodegradable pellets used for disposable packaging materials, lost to Fisher Rocks.
Voting for the third round is underway through Friday. Voting for the top four products begins Oct. 4. The winner will be announced Oct. 12.
