A big night of music is ahead for the United Way of the Flint Hills, courtesy of the Emporia State Department of Music.
The music department is having its jazz fundraising concert at Albert Taylor Hall at 7:30 pm Thursday. ESU Director of Bands Gary Ziek says there will be a great night of music ahead.
A freewill donation will be accepted, with all proceeds benefiting the United Way’s annual fundraising campaign. United Way Drive Chair Mike Argabright says the fundraising drive is important, especially as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
Part of the concert will feature some well-known area musicians performing together, including a group with Emporia Symphony Orchestra conductor Ramiro Miranda on violin, ESU Marching Hornets Director Bill Woodworth on bass, ESU percussion professor Tracy Freeze on vibes, ESU English professor and former Kansas poet laureate Kevin Rabas on drums, Emporia Middle School music teacher Riley Day on guitar, Ziek on trumpet and ESU student Javier Chavez on saxophone. ESU sophomore Brennan Ryan will also be featured on beatbox.
