From jazz, to blues, to pop and even beatboxing, a special benefit concert through Emporia State University’s music department had it all Thursday night.
ESU’s Albert Taylor Hall hosted the concert in support of the United Way’s annual fundraising campaign and was the first live event to take place inside the hall in nearly 19 months. The evening included performances by the ESU Faculty Jazz Combo, ESU’s Jazz Ensemble 1 and a beatbox performance by ESU sophomore Brennan Ryan accompanied by guitarist Riley Day.
2021 United Way Drive Chair Mike Argabright says he is grateful for those who came out to support the concert and the performers who took the time to help make it possible.
Argabright adds that he was very pleased to see the involvement of ESU students as he feels it is vitally important to stoke the flame of charity in younger residents whenever possible.
The event was free to attend, however, freewill donations were accepted with all proceeds going to the campaign. About $700 was raised.
