USD 253 Emporia has been hard at work the past 19 months to bring students back to in-person learning and is currently working even harder to keep students in person.
That was the report from USD 253 Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder during an interview on KVOE’s Morning Show Friday. According to Anderson-Harder, the district has seen lower COVID-19 cases districtwide, compared to other similar-sized districts, since the beginning of the fall semester.
She credits the district’s mitigation strategies, the diligence of staff and students and recent partnerships with local health professionals for those low trends. Anderson-Harder also touted the success of the district’s test-to-learn modified quarantine program as a major resource that has allowed the district to reduce the high level of learning loss experienced by students at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard as of Thursday, USD 253 has 21 staff positives, an increase of three from the previous week, with 20 total staff quarantines for the year, an increase of four from last week. For students, the district reported 11 new COVID positive students bringing the year-to-date total to 107 with 191 total students having been placed in home quarantine and 314 in the modified quarantine.
So far, a total of 114 students have returned to school following a COVID-19 infection. You can find more information on the district’s website USD253.org.
