Emporia State University officially welcomed the community to enjoy the sparkling new Kossover Family Tennis Complex.
A special ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Saturday morning to celebrate the better than $3 million facility. The complex namesake is Greg Kossover, a tennis student-athlete at ESU in the early 1980s. He says top-notch facilities help students reach a high level of competition, which helps them after their college days are done.
Kossover and Ken Hush, another Emporia State tennis alum from the early ’80s, made the lead gifts to make the facility come alive. Hush says the new complex was all about the students.
Current Emporia State tennis athletes were, to say the least, impressed. Here’s freshman Micaela McSpadden of Oologah, Oklahoma:
Harrison Brown, a senior from London, England, says the Kossover complex ranks highly with other facilities around the world.
Current tennis coach Les Stafford says he has one regret: he “can’t describe it well enough.”
Longtime coach George Milton, who gave the official first serve, says the facility should help draw top athletes to the program.
The Kossover Family Tennis Complex is the first of its kind for MIAA schools with indoor and outdoor courts along with a student lounge, patio, viewing deck and other features.
