Saturday’s auction of Plumb Place contents generated around $16,000 for an agency to help women in crisis situations.
The United Way of the Flint Hills has been the lead agency for the Plumb Place Steering Committee, which has been working all year long to restart services after the original agency closed its doors due to longstanding financial issues. United Way Director Mickey Edwards says the total was better than expected.
Edwards says the new board will be responsible for finding staff and a new facility along with new services, and she says this means more money than initially expected to funnel into services once those are reset. The Steering Committee has been interviewing potential board members, and that process continues with the goal of creating a 15-member board to lead the agency forward.
J and D Auction Services handled the auction proceedings, which involved hundreds of items ranging from glassware, office supplies and cookware to refrigerators, TVs, furniture and items owned by the Plumb family.
Details are still finalizing for the sale of the house and property. Lyon County District Court will have final approval once the house is sold.
