Now that CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness has secured a better than $2 million grant for expanding services, Chief Executive Officer Amanda Cunningham says her agency will be busy getting ready for that expansion.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Monday, Cunningham said a lot of work is ahead to close out this year and start next year.
On Friday, CrossWinds announced it was receiving $2.3 million over two years through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Community Mental Health Center Grant Program. The funding is for new programs, including improvements to same-day intake — known as “open access.”
The grant will help CrossWinds enhance mental health services to underserved segments of the area population.
Cunningham says this is likely a one-time grant, but she also says the state’s push to a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic approach could open up new avenues for grant funding. The change to the CCBHC model includes an increased crisis response, enhanced coordination with criminal justice systems locally and more emphasis on culturally appropriate services.
