Members of the Emporia State University family and area residents are encouraged to wish President Allison Garrett and her husband, Chip, well as they move to Oklahoma soon.
Emporia State has set up a farewell reception from 3-5 pm Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Wooster Lake patio on the north side of the Emporia State Memorial Union.
Allison Garrett is departing ESU at the end of next week to become the chancellor and chief executive officer of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education. She leaves as ESU set or reset several records for retention rates, four-year and six-year graduation rates, fundraising and graduate enrollment. She has also been busy in the Emporia community, serving on the United Way of the Flint Hills Board of Directors while also serving as the vice chair of the NCAA’s Board of Governors and as chair of the Division II Presidents’ Council.
Chip Garrett, meanwhile, has served on the SOS Board of Directors and the Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission as part of his community work.
