Kansas Congressman Tracey Mann has been a busy lawmaker.
Mann has been taking a tour of manufacturing companies across his First Congressional District, which took him to Emporia on Thursday. He tells KVOE News businesses are facing significant issues with labor markets and product shortages. He also sees too much federal overreach as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
Mann stopped at Hopkins Manufacturing and Norfolk Iron & Metal. He also stopped at Emporia State, where he wished outgoing president Allison Garrett well as she moves to Oklahoma to be chancellor and CEO of the State System of Higher Education later this month.
Mann has also been heavily involved in discussions about the federal budget and debt ceiling the past several weeks. The latest round culminated this week with a decision to fund the budget on a short-term basis, but another vote looms De. 3. Mann is not at all pleased with that process so far.
Mann is also unhappy with the amount of spending. He says the current debt is nearing $30 trillion, with another $6 trillion possibly added over the next 18 months and $15 trillion over the next decade. Mann says that amount of debt will likely have a negative impact on inflation, the dollar and the country’s ability to service debt down the road.
