Summertime heat is coming to the KVOE listening area to start the weekend.
In fact, Emporia could see a record high temperature for Oct. 9. The current forecast calls for a high of 94, above the 92 degrees noted at the Emporia Municipal Airport dating back to 1963.
With the high temperatures, wind gusts between 30-40 mph, humidity levels below 30 percent and much of the area dry for over a month, the fire danger will be very high areawide Saturday.
The heat and fire danger will not be long-lived as a pair of storm systems bring cooler temperatures and an extended chance of rainfall to the area. Rain chances build by Sunday evening with highs only in the low 80s, and it gets cooler from there with highs in the upper 60s by Wednesday. Strong storms may be possible Tuesday night, but we could see heavy rain at times between Sunday night and Wednesday.
