With Pfizer formally asking for emergency use authorization to vaccinate children as young as age 5 against coronavirus recently, Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says this will be a big step in controlling the virus.
Having said that on KVOE’s Morning Show recently, she also says the process for getting shots in arms will have some logistical differences from the process used for teenagers and adults.
Like adults, though, children will still need two doses for a full course.
The American Academy of Pediatrics says six million children across America have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic started early last year. Less than 700 have died.
The FDA will have a hearing on the Pfizer request Oct. 26. If emergency use authorization is granted, youngsters between ages 5-11 could start receiving vaccinations by early November.
