A noted expert witness in one of the more widely-watched criminal cases of the past decade will be in Emporia on Monday
Dr. Timothy Rohrig, a forensic toxicologist, will offer his thoughts on the field as a whole and his testimony in comedian Bill Cosby’s sex assault trials during a discussion at 7 pm at Science Hall Room 72. The presentation is called “Bill Cosby: America’s Dad, the Trials and Vacated Conviction.”
Rohrig’s appearance leads off the annual seminar series for the Emporia State Forensic Science program. There will also be an open house from 5:30-6:30 pm Monday at Science Hall Room 147.
Cosby was charged with several felony counts of criminal sexual assault. The first, in 2017, resulted in a mistrial. The second, in 2018, resulted in convictions on three counts of aggravated indecent assault. The convictions were later vacated. Rohrig was a prosecution witness in both trials, focusing on the types of drugs Cosby was accused of giving to several women.
Rohrig is a visiting professor in Emporia State’s master of science in forensic science program. He retired in 2019 after spending 19 years as Sedgwick County’s chief toxicologist and director of the county’s Regional Forensic Science Center.
