After record highs and high fire danger in Saturday’s forecast, things turn for the cooler, wetter and — occasionally — stormier.
Two incoming storm systems will provide an extended chance of showers and storms beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing through at least Wednesday. The Sunday night round of weather could bring 1-2 inches of rainfall. There is also a marginal risk of severe weather along and south of the Kansas Turnpike to Interstate 35, with hail the main concern.
After a slight chance of rainfall Monday and again Tuesday, there is now a good chance of rainfall Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. Rain could return Thursday night into Friday, although the chances are minimal in the current forecast.
Shortly before 4 pm, the Emporia Municipal Airport eclipsed the Oct. 9 record high with a temperature of 93 degrees. The previous record was 92 in 1963. Several locations across Kansas — including Salina and Wichita — hit records as well.
