After seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases to close out September and begin October, Lyon County Public Health reported one of the smaller new caseloads in several weeks Monday.
Public Health only had five new cases between Friday and Monday. Meanwhile, there were 50 recovered patients announced — so the active caseload dipped from 111 to 66.
This is the smallest new caseload report since 4 new cases were reported Sept. 8 and the lowest active caseload since there were 60 active cases Aug. 6.
Public Health says 13 of the current active cases — just under 20 percent — are breakthroughs involving fully-vaccinated residents.
Almost 900 college-age residents between ages 18-23 have had COVID-19, with four active cases. The totals for children ages newborn to 17 are now at 659 with 26 active cases. For adults, the 30-39 age group leads other categories with 809 total cases and eight active cases.
Deaths remained steady at 90. Deaths awaiting final cause information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment stayed at one. Active hospitalizations remained at two.
