An issue with a lawn mower apparently triggered a destructive garage fire in Hartford on Wednesday.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn says the fire developed at 518 East Grand. Fire had fully engulfed the detached garage by the time Hartford-Neosho Rapids crews arrived.
Lyon County District 4, the rural unit for Emporia, and Olpe Fire provided mutual aid along with Lyon County deputies. Zumbrunn says the fire was under control in less than 30 minutes, but the building was a total loss and there was heat damage to the siding of a nearby house. No injuries were reported.
Zumbrunn says a mower backfired inside the garage, starting the fire.
