Owners of Murphy Agri LLC were pleased that a grain elevator bin’s collapse was not as severe as it could have been Wednesday afternoon.
The collapse occurred at the Murphy Agri LLC grain elevator just before 5 pm. Owners say they noticed structural issues around noon after a truck driver pulled through to pick up a load of grain.
Murphy Agri Co-Owner Karin Murphy says this knowledge allowed them to make some adjustments to prevent the collapse from turning into a more serious situation.
Current estimates are that around 12,000 bushels of grain may have been spilled as a result of the collapse. Murphy says they should be able to salvage the majority of the grain.
She says it could be a year before the bin is replaced and cost estimates are pending. She says a timeline for replacing the bin could be affected by increasing material costs and demand.
No injuries were reported due to the collapse.
