The Emporia State football game will be a busy time Saturday, and not just for the action on the field..
ESU will honor its Alumni Association Service Citation Award winners from this year and last. It’s a combined announcement due to COVID-19. The award honors unique and significant service to ESU. To be honored at halftime will be Vern and Nancy McKinzie, Kevin Rabas, the late Mark Runge and Jeff and Gwen Longbine. On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Gwen Longbine called the announcement “a great honor.”
Jeff Longbine said he was surprised by the announcement.
Also, Tyson Allen will try to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for golf-club-throwing distance. Allen says he has a full-blown support crew for this effort.
The current record is 199 feet by Zach Blenkinsopp, who achieved that distance last year in Alabama.
As far as the game goes, Emporia State is playing nationally-ranked Nebraska-Kearney. kickoff is at 1 pm at Welch Stadium. Pregame coverage begins at noon on Mix 104.9 FM and KVOE.com.
