Nebraska Kearney outscored the Emporia State football team Saturday 42-35.
The Hornets scored the first two touchdowns, a 24-yard pass to Cole Schumacker and 1 yard run by Canaan Brooks. Emporia State took a 21-7 lead on a Calvin Boyce 1 yard run before Kearney would score 35 unanswered points to take a 42-21 lead. Emporia State would rally with a 7-yard touchdown run by Canaan Brooks and an 11-yard pass to Cory Thomas.
Emporia State recovered the onside kick but could not capitalize.
Kearney took advantage of the big play scoring on passing plays of 37 yards, 42 yards, and 38 yards.
Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins said they did not put it together for 4 quarters.
For the 2nd game in a row, the Hornets finished with over 600 yards off offense, finishing with 609 yards on 109 plays.
Canaan Brooks rushed for 151 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.
Dawson Hammes led the defense with 9 tackles.
With the loss, the Hornets are now 3-4 for the season. They will host Missouri Southern next Saturday for homecoming.
