Chilly temperatures couldn’t keep the zombies or movie lovers away from Jones Park Saturday evening.
Local residents were at the park for the annual Emporia Police Benefit Association Zombie Run 5K and Movie in the Park. After a brave pack of participants finished outrunning the undead, residents settled in for a chilly screening of the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus, which according to Deputy Emporia Police Chief Kevin Risley is a number one pick for everyone’s watchlist each year.
Risley says everyone in the organization looks forward to this time of year as it is one of their busier times with more community activities coming up soon.
Risley says the EPBA is always grateful for the face-to-face time with the community these charitable events provide.
Concessions were available for sale during the screening with all proceeds going to the EPBA. Emporia Police Deputy Chief Kevin Risley says those funds are then used to support the work of several local organizations.
Fundraising totals from the event are currently pending.
