Preschool is a step closer to reality for USD 251 North Lyon County.
The district’s board recently approved a bid from Koehn Construction of Fredonia to build the facility. Superintendent Bob Blair says the board approved the base bid of around $330,000, along with an alternate storm shelter addition with a restroom for almost $140,000 and a playground alternate bid of almost $37,000. The total cost is just over $505,000, and Blair says this is a big deal for the district. This follows a survey almost a year ago where parents overwhelmingly said they would send their young students to a preschool if the district had one available.
The preschool will be located in Americus near North Lyon County Elementary.
Blair says construction should be done well before the start of the fall 2022 semester. He’s anticipating a six-month construction process wrapping up by May, which will give time to get everything ready by August.
