One supporting charge is getting dropped, but the attempted murder case against Emporian Ronald W Schemm is moving forward.
During a preliminary hearing last week, prosecutors said they would dismiss one aggravated assault charge against Schemm. However, prosecutors are proceeding with the attempted murder charge — which has an alternate count of aggravated assault — as well as a separate aggravated assault count.
Schemm is accused of trying to kill a woman as well as threatening two men with a gun in mid-August after a reported domestic violence situation in the 900 block of Waverly Way. Emporia Police officers say they investigated for 16 hours, including an appearance by the Special Response Team, before Schemm surrendered.
A pretrial and arraignment hearing is now coming at 2 pm Nov. 5. This is typically the hearing when potential trial dates are set.
