There was another increase in Lyon County’s coronavirus numbers Wednesday, but the increase wasn’t to the level of Monday’s report or any since early October.
Lyon County Public Health reported 18 new cases, lower than the 23 new cases announced Monday and the lowest caseload increase since five cases were reported Oct. 5. Active cases, meanwhile, increased from 84 to 86. Of the active cases, 22 — or better than a quarter of the total — are breakthrough cases involving fully-vaccinated residents.
Deaths remained steady at 90, but Public Health announced a second death awaiting final cause information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Active hospitalizations climbed from two to three.
There have now been 5,506 coronavirus cases since the pandemic came to Lyon County in late March 2020. Over 59 percent of Lyon County’s vaccine-eligible residents ages 12-plus have been fully vaccinated, while 50.7 percent of the full population has been fully vaccinated. Over 59 percent of the county population has also been tested at least once for COVID.
Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern will have a response update during KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:15 am Thursday.
