The latest event on the calendar to benefit the United Way of the Flint Hills takes place Wednesday.
The annual Small Business Blitz will have teams of volunteers collecting donations from different businesses. United Way Executive Director Mickey Edwards says several things will be happening as part of the effort Wednesday.
Edwards says five teams, each with two volunteers, will visit as many small businesses as possible as part of the blitz.
Both Edwards and drive chair Mike Argabright say small business support is crucial to the success of the drive, which generates operating funds for more than 20 community partners in eight counties — Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson — every year. Edwards has not given a running total, but she says the drive is “going really great” so far. Some workplace campaigns are already filed, and Edwards says those are either at or above last year’s totals. This year’s goal is $475,000.
