Residents of a west central Emporia neighborhood have their water service restored after issues developed Sunday.
Issues were noted near Seventh and Garfield around 9:45 am after a 6-inch line failed. Emporia Public Works says the roadway was more damaged by the line failure than first thought, so nearly half the 600 block of Garfield was closed overnight as repairs continued. Water service was restored before 4 pm Sunday.

Work continues to restore water service to a neighborhood in west central Emporia.

11:20 am Sunday: Emporia Public Works investigating water line issue near Seventh and Garfield
Emporia’s Underground Utilities Department is busy after a water leak was reported Sunday morning.
A 6-inch line in the 600 block of Garfield is currently out of service after a leak was reported shortly before 10 am. Emporia Public Works Director Dean Grant says the leak is close to Seventh.
Crews are working now to find all underground utilities near that intersection before proceeding with the repair process. The Lyon County Emergency Communications Center estimates it could be until after 3 pm before the situation is resolved.
