October 2021 has been a busy month for Plumb Place.
An auction of the building’s contents generated $16,000 to help re-establish emergency services to women. A tour-and-paranormal investigation event brought in another $1,200. Board members were named recently and the property was put on the market this week.
So with all this activity, how close is Plumb Place to being re-established? United Way CEO Mickey Edwards says there is still a ways to go on that front.
Edwards also says there are a lot of administrative details yet to finalize before a new location can be considered.
Plumb Place has been closed all year after the Plumb Place agency had ongoing financial difficulties. The current plan is to funnel money from the home sale and prior fundraisers to a revived Plumb Place Board of Directors. The board will determine the scope of services for women — and possibly their children — needing emergency help.
Receiver Kevin Flott tells KVOE News the house is on the market for $199,000 and has been listed with all local realty agencies. Flott says people interested in buying the property can contact their realty agency of choice. The goal is to have a suitable bid by Dec. 15. The sale will not be finalized until a judge in Lyon County District Court approves the deal.
Noon Tuesday: Plumb Place officially up for sale

This follows two successful fundraisers as the process continues to restore service to women in crisis situations. Saturday’s Farewell to the Spirits of Plumb Place tour and paranormal investigation, led by Flint Hills Paranormal, generated $1,200, with 30 people taking part in tours led by the Lyon County History Center and 45 going through the paranormal investigation. In early October, about $16,000 was raised by the sale of all the items and contents of the property.
