Emporia City Commissioners could well approve two major update projects within town in the next week.
During the Emporia City Commission’s recent study session Wednesday morning, commissioners discussed a supplemental contract related to a long-discussed sanitary sewer lift station improvement project. The proposed contract, presented by Public Works Department Director Dean Grant, is to cover bid letting and construction inspection services by BG Consultants for proposed improvements to Sanitary Sewer Lift Station #2.
The station upgrades are part of a larger overall project which also includes updates to stations 1 and 15, however, the supplemental contract only pertains to station 2. Grant says a second supplemental contract will also be presented for station 1 at a later time.
The total contract is not to exceed $215,036 with work on the project tentatively set to begin at some time next year, however, Grant tells KVOE News it could take longer depending on the current state of national supply chains.
In other business, commissioners were presented with a recommendation by City Manager Mark McAnarney to move forward with the first wave in a two-phased update effort to the Jones Park disc golf course. The proposal comes after discussions between the city and Dynamic Discs and McAnarney says the project comes as an effort to further elevate the reputation of Emporia’s courses at the national level.
The first wave of updates would include new tee pads and the resetting of baskets as the main items of work and is estimated to cost around $50,000 with Dynamic Discs and the City of Emporia handling the work. McAnarney says they chose to split the work into phases in an effort to not build more than what the city can maintain at one time.
Word on when commissioners may give approval to the work and when the updates could possibly begin is currently pending.
The Emporia City Commission will reconvene next Wednesday at 1:30 pm for an action session inside the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
