There was a changing of the guard inside the ESB Financial Merchant Street location Wednesday afternoon.
A special reception was held to recognize the retirement of Karen Sommers who has served as the bank’s Vice President of Marketing since 1991. Sommers says while her list of responsibilities may be lessened with retirement, that doesn’t mean she won’t be keeping busy.
During Wednesday’s reception, Sommers literally passed her torch to new ESB Marketing Officer Candace Wakeman. Alongside Sommers and Wakeman was former VP of Marketing Carolyn Davis who served in the role from 1961-1991.
Davis says Wakeman comes into the role with little prior experience in the banking profession. However; she believes Wakeman is perfectly suited to step into the role given the skillset and knowledge she has in the area of marketing.
Wakeman comes to ESB after spending several years as a member of the Emporia State University marketing team. She says she is very excited to be at the bank and is happy to be a part of the “ESB family.”
Wakeman officially assumed her duties as the new Marketing Officer in mid-July.
