COVID-19 vaccinations for children as young as age five are a step closer to reality.
The Food and Drug Administration authorized the Pfizer shot for children between the ages of five and 11 on Friday. The dosage amount will be roughly a third of what patients above age 12 receive.
An advisory panel for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will then discuss supporting data Tuesday, with full approval possible before the end of next week. Millions of Pfizer vaccines began getting shipped across the country shortly after the FDA’s approval, and the vaccination process for children could start before next week is over.
