The Emporia State football team scored 15 points in the final 6 minutes of play to rally for a 15-12 win over the Fort Hays State Tigers Saturday afternoon.
A much-needed win for the Hornets and Coach Garin Higgins.
Fort Hays kicked a 25-yard field goal at the beginning of the 2nd quarter to take a 3-0 lead. The Tigers took a 6-0 lead with a 21-yard field goal at the end of the 3rd quarter. Fort Hays scored on a 7-yard touchdown run by Adrian Soto with 6:20 to play in the game. Emporia State held on the 2 point conversion try. The rest of the game belonged to Emporia State.
Canaan Brooks scored on a 23-yard touchdown run with 3:53 to play. Emporia State held the Tigers on 4 downs and took over with 2:27 to play. On the 8th play of the drive, Braden Gleason connected with Canaan Brooks for a 7-yard touchdown pass.
The 2 point conversion try was good with a pass to Cory Thomas.
Quarterback Braden Gleason said they played with confidence.
The Hornet Defense held Fort Hays on 6 plays and was able to run out the clock for the win.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 5-4 on the season. They will host Lincoln next Saturday for Senior Day.
