The heat wasn’t the only thing turned up inside the kitchens of Flint Hills Technical College Thursday night, so was the level of competition for the fifth installment of the college’s annual cookoff event, the Cut.
Drew Bonnet was crowned the very first all-star champion after three rounds of cooking where he defeated 2017 winner and Thursday’s runner up Kati Beaty, 2020 winner Addyson Bachura who finished third and 2018 winner Jacob Holmes who finished fourth.
Bonnet says winning is great, but it wasn’t his sole focus going into the competition.
FHTC Alumni/Annual Fund Coordinator Andrea Cahoone says she was so pleased that each of these alumni were willing to return for the competition.
While the competitors were working fast and furiously inside the kitchen, a large contingent of residents and college administrators were watching from the FHTC parking lot as part of the annual viewing party thanks to students and alumni of the college’s multimedia department. Among the viewers was FHTC President Caron Daugherty who was attending her very first installment of the Cut.
Daugherty says she sure picked the right year to be in attendance.
During the evening’s proceedings, Cahoone announced the college is in the midst of a “Giving Tuesday” fundraising campaign that began in late October and will continue through the end of the month. All funds raised through the campaign will go to benefit the FHTC Wrangler Student Crisis Relief Fund.
