Fire and smoke caused extensive damage to a home in northwest Emporia on Friday.
Emporia Fire responded to 2502 Monterey Drive just before 4 pm and had smoke coming from the house when the got to the scene. Crews were able to get the fire out in relatively short order, but not before it caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to the structure and contents.
Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says the cause and origination point are both under investigation, but firefighters are looking at the kitchen for clues.
4:10 pm Friday: Emporia Fire battling reported house fire
Fire has been reported at a northwest Emporia house.
Emporia Fire responded to 2502 Monterey Drive shortly before 4 pm and reported smoke coming from the house as they arrived. Further details are pending.
The Monterey Drive fire followed a small fire that developed at an apartment inside 1201 Cottonwood shortly before 10 am after a reported cooking incident. The fire was out when Emporia Fire arrived. A damage report is pending.
