Emporia’s annual celebration of veterans is entering the core part of its schedule.
All Veterans Tribute has been underway since the annual scramble golf tournament in September, followed by the Quilts of Gratitude quilt exhibit underway at the Emporia Public Library since mid-October.
Visit Emporia Director LeLan Dains is pleased with the schedule. He says it’s important to have a variety of events when it comes to All Veterans Tribute.
Besides Freedom Fest, which took place much of Saturday, the Student Essay Contest winners were announced Friday. Over 230 students between grades 5-12 in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties participated. That list can be found below.
This week’s schedule includes:
*Red Cross blood drive, noon-6 pm Nov. 8 at American Legion Post 5
*Veterans Roundtable, 7:30 pm Nov. 8 at the Emporia State Memorial Union
*Veterans Breakfast on the Go, 7:30 am Nov. 11 at Presbyterian Manor
*Veterans Day Parade, 9:30 am Nov. 11 on Commercial Street
*Veterans Day Memorial Service, 11 am Nov. 11 at the All Veterans Memorial
*Ham and bean lunch, noon Nov. 11 at American Legion Post 5
*Sara Evans concert, 7 pm Nov. 11 at the Emporia Granada Theatre
Also coming is the Quilts of Gratitude. Both 2020 and 2021 honorees will receive quilts at 2 pm Nov. 14 at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building.
