No medical transports were required following a single vehicle accident in far west Emporia early Monday evening.
Emporia Fire and EMS, Emporia Police and Lyon County Sheriffs Deputies were called to the 4200 block of West Highway 50, across from the Flying J Truck stop, shortly after 5 pm for a reported injury accident. According to the Emporia Police Department a grey passenger car was westbound on the highway when the driver lost control for unknown reasons, crashed through a guardrail and struck a column on the underside of the Kansas Turnpike overpass.
The driver of the vehicle, an unidentified female, was observed at the scene and did not require a trip to the hospital. The car suffered significant damage to the front end and had to be towed from the scene.
Both west and eastbound traffic were down to one lane for a time as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
