A special veterans week blood drive through the American Red Cross received a tremendous show of support from the Emporia community.
Nearly all 55 slots for Monday’s drive held at American Legion Post 5 were filled which brought a large smile to the face of organizer and Vietnam War veteran Dennis Paul. He says the timing for the drive could not have worked out more perfectly with Veterans Day coming Thursday.
The goal for Monday’s blood drive was 35 pints of usable blood. A total of 38 pints were collected.
The drive not only comes at a great time in relation to All Veterans Tribute Week in Emporia but also at a time where the need for blood continues to be great due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic. Every pint of blood donated has the potential to help save up to three lives.
