One individual was arrested following an incident on the Kansas Turnpike Sunday evening where a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper had to discharge their taser.
According to Lt. David Hundley of the Kansas Highway Patrol, a trooper initiated a traffic stop on a white SUV at KTA milepost 148, 21 miles northeast of the Emporia tollgate, around 7:40 pm. Upon making contact with the driver the trooper came to believe they may have been under the influence of alcohol and initiated a field sobriety test.
During that time, the driver allegedly became “combative” forcing the trooper to utilize their taser and subdue the individual. The driver was initially taken to Newman Regional Health for evaluation and possible treatment and after being discharged was taken to the Lyon County Jail.
A list of charges is currently pending. The name of the driver is not being released.
