Water service has been restored to customers in east Emporia following an early morning water main break Thursday.
According to Public Works Director Dean Grant, a hole developed in an 8-inch line just before 7 am Thursday morning in the 800 block of Weaver. Grant says crews were able to isolate the line, place a clamp on it and restore service to customers in the area.
The break did result in standing water in ditches through the area before crews shut off the valve to begin repair work. The line break also ruptured a portion of pavement on Weaver between 10th and 9th Ave.

Repairs are underway to repair an early morning water main break in Emporia.
The break was reported just before 7 am Thursday in the 800 block of Weaver Street. Emporia Public Works has shut down service in the area in order to repair the damage.
The break led to standing water in ditches in the area and caused a small rupture in the pavement. Barricades have been placed in the 800 block between 6th and 10th Ave.
