The Tablets of Honor project at Emporia’s All Veterans Memorial took a step forward last week, as organizer Frank Lowery explained on KVOE’s Morning Show recently.
The project started in 2016. The first phase actually started with six tablets, expanded to 10 and then added the 11th tablet. A 12th tablet is full and a 13th tablet is nearly full. There is room for another five tablets once the 12th and 13th tablets are installed.
The current expansion follows coordination with the city and the state to make sure the tablets could be added with the Cottonwood River floodplain nearby. As work on Tablets of Honor resumes, more items are coming to the memorial, including a field memorial and security cameras.
People wanting to submit names need to fill out an application online at www.allveteransday.org, including name, branch, time of service, rank and proof of honorable discharge. The cost for the engraving is now $150.
