A Madison man has died as the result of a fatality crash that occurred southeast of Olpe Friday.
According to Deputy Jody Meyers of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, Emporia-Lyon County EMS, the Hartford Fire Department and Reading Fire Fighters all responded to the intersection of Roads 30 and R, two miles north of the Lyon/Greenwood County line, shortly after 12:20 pm for a reported injury accident. According to Meyers, 59-year-old Jay Turner of Madison was traveling southbound on R in a 1990 Ford Econoline Van and failed to stop at a stop sign.
At the same time, a Ford F350 pickup driven by 62-year-old Justin Sage of Madison was travelling eastbound through the intersection. Turner’s van struck the Sage pickup and overturned in the roadway.
Turner died at the scene due to injuries while Sage was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected injuries, the severity of which has not been released.
Sage was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident while Turner was not.

One person has been pronounced dead following a two-vehicle accident southeast of Olpe Friday.
According to Lyon County Detective Sgt. Jacob Welch, Lyon County Deputies and emergency personnel were called to the scene of an injury accident at the intersection of Roads 30 and R, two miles north of the Lyon/Greenwood County line, shortly after 12:20 pm. Welch says the accident involved a pickup and van and resulted in one casualty as well as injuries to other individuals.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
