USD 252 Southern Lyon County is bumping up efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the district.
According to Superintendent Mike Argabright, the district is getting set to host a vaccine clinic for all district staff, students and patrons later this month in both Olpe and Neosho Rapids. Argabright says the clinic was made possible by cooperation between the district and Lyon County Public Health.
The clinic will take place Monday, Nov. 22 from 9 am to 11 am at Neosho Rapids and 1 pm to 3 pm at Olpe Junior-Senior High. The clinics come at a time where 252 is staying the course with its current slate of COVID mitigation strategies.
Argabright says the district’s current policies have been proven to work and have helped keep transmission rates low to almost non-existent within district buildings for the majority of the 2021 fall semester.
The district is also celebrating a recent milestone accomplishment that was announced during the USD 252 Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening. Argabright says the district recently received eight-star awards through the Kansas State Department of Education’s Kansans Can Star Recognition program.
Of the eight awards, the district received two gold stars one of which was in recognition of the district’s civic engagement curriculum which includes the annual honor flight program. USD 252 is the first and only school district in the state of Kansas to receive eight star awards and presented Wednesday at the state board of education meeting regarding the civic engagement curriculum.
Superintendent Argabright will join KVOE’s Newsmaker Two Segment at 8:20 am Monday morning to further discuss the awards further.
