The defense of the #4 ranked Northwest Missouri State Bearcats was too much for the Emporia State football team to overcome Saturday in a season-ending 35-7 loss.
Northwest held Emporia State to 106 yards of total offense, 21 rushing yards, and 85 passing yards. Emporia State quarterback Braden Gleason was 13-32 for 85 yards with a touchdown pass to Jaylen Varner and 2 interceptions.
Offensively Northwest relied on their running attack rushing for 347 yards. Running back Al McKeller rushed for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins said even though the season did not end the way they wanted it to, they had a good season.
The Hornets finish their season with a 6-5 record and in 5th place in the MIAA standings after being preseason picked 9th and 8th by the media and coaches.
