With a little less than a month to go before the Medicare Open Enrollment deadline, free counseling services through the Lyon County Extension Office are still available for anyone wishing to review their current Medicare Part D plans.
During the open enrollment process residents are highly encouraged to review different plans and compare costs and benefits to see what may be right for them, especially with changes in different plans from year to year. Residents already enrolled in Medicare can switch from original Medicare to Medicare Advantage or vice versa. They can also switch from one Medicare Advantage or Part D prescription plan to another.
They can also sign up for a new Part D plan if they did not sign up when first eligible, although a late enrollment penalty may be involved.
As the enrollment process can sometimes be a difficult and confusing one to navigate, certified Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK) counselors are available to sit down with residents between now and the Dec. 7 deadline. SHICK Counselor and Extension Agent Travis Carmichael says there are a few important pieces of information residents need to bring with them.
Better than 500,000 Kansas residents receive health care services through Medicare. If you would like to schedule an appointment to visit with a SHICK counselor please call the Lyon County Extension Office at (620) 341-3220.
