Just a month after it was approved by Lyon County Commissioners, the county’s new online burn reporting procedure p and running.
Lyon County Emergency Communications Center Public Information Coordinator Christine Johnson joined KVOE’s Morning Show recently to discuss the new tool. Johnson says the new online portal is a benefit both to LCECC staff and the general public as it should help cut down the amount of phone traffic and wait time that occurs during the traditional burn season.
To use the online reporting procedure, residents need to visit Lyoncounty911/burn and answer a “few simple questions.” The reporting process can be done from any mobile device or any device with WiFi or internet accessibility.
In addition to cutting down the volume of calls and wait times for dispatchers and residents, the new tool also benefits local firefighters as the portal logs all burn reports and provides exact location information in the event a burn was to get out of control.
Residents can still call in their burns to the communications center if they do not have access to the internet. However; it is highly encouraged they find a way to access the online reporting portal before calling in.
The reporting process is intended for unincorporated communities within the county. Residents of Emporia and other incorporated communities within Lyon County will still need to follow city ordinances regarding burning.
Residents can email info@lcecc.org with questions or go online to www.lyoncounty911.org/burn-faq for more information.
