New coronavirus cases took a modest step up while active cases dropped noticeably in Lyon County Public Health’s latest update Monday.
Public Health announced 14 new cases for the past weekend, pushing the overall total to 5,762 since March 2020. It’s a relatively slow start to the week after 93 new cases were tabulated last week.
Active cases dropped from 157 Friday, a recent peak, to 110 Monday. Of the active cases, 26 — or almost 24 percent — are breakthrough cases involving fully-vaccinated residents.
Overall deaths remained stable at 92, with one death pending final cause information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Active hospitalizations are at four. Over 60 percent of Lyon County’s vaccine-eligible population — listed as 12 and up on www.kansasvaccine.com — is fully vaccinated with almost 52 percent of the county’s total population fully vaccinated. Close to 62 percent of Lyon County’s population has received at least one coronavirus test.
