C is for cookie. It’s also for celebration, and once again USD 253 Emporia Public Schools connected the two for its annual cookie delivery Tuesday.
Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder says American Education Week is a good opportunity to remind people of the hard work teachers and staffers do on a daily basis — as well as the willingness among staffers to be role models for kids.
A team of administrators and representatives of Emporia NEA and Emporia State Federal Credit Union stopped by every school and district building to deliver cookies to teachers and support staffers. As was the case last year, KVOE participated by doing phone interviews with building representatives as a way to work around the coronavirus pandemic and also to highlight the work done in and out of Emporia classrooms.
This leads into another big activity for American Education Week: the annual KVOE-National Teachers Hall of Fame Radio Auction taking place Thursday evening. Hall of Fame Director Carol Strickland will have a preview on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia at 11:06 am Wednesday. The auction begins around 6:05 pm Thursday on 14 KVOE, 96.9 FM and KVOE-TV at KVOE.com.
