The leadership connection between Emporia and the Kansas Association of School Boards will continue through a change in leaders.
Dr. Brian Jordan, a one-time assistant superintendent in Emporia Public Schools, an athletics director at Northern Heights and an Emporia State University graduate, has been promoted from deputy executive director to executive director after a unanimous vote by the KASB Board of Directors.
Jordan has served as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent before joining KASB in 2012. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Kansas State University, followed by a master’s in education administration from Emporia State and a doctorate in education leadership at K-State. He also worked at Washburn Rural before going to Northern Heights and later Emporia.
In his most recent position, Jordan came back to the KVOE listening area on several occasions, especially as public school districts began searches for new superintendents.
Jordan supplants Dr. John Heim, a one-time Emporia Public Schools superintendent who had served as KASB director the past 11 years. Heim left USD 253 for KASB in 2011 and is now serving as the executive director of the National School Boards Association. Angie Stallbaumer, currently the KASB’s director of legal services, will fill Jordan’s prior role.
Jordan says KASB is beginning its board member training process, which will continue into early next year. KASB also plans to be active through the upcoming legislative session, and Jordan plans to take what he calls a “Listen, Learn and Lead” statewide tour to hear firsthand from KASB member efforts over the next three-plus months. Stops on the tour will be announced later.
7:20 am Wednesday: Former USD 253 assistant superintendent now leading Kansas Association of School Boards
There has been a change at the top of the Kansas Association of School Boards.
John Heim, the executive director the past 11 years, has been announced as the executive director of the National School Boards Association. Heim had served as superintendent of USD 253 Emporia before leading KASB.
Taking Heim’s leadership role with KASB is Brian Jordan, a one-time assistant superintendent under Heim in Emporia and a finalist as Heim’s replacement. Jordan has been with KASB since 2012 and had served the past four years as deputy executive director.
Angie Stallbaumer, currently the KASB’s director of legal services, will fill Jordan’s prior role.
